A brilliance of buttercups

I went for a walk along the Green River yesterday. The Williamstown Rural Lands Foundation keeps a trail along the bank not far from where I live, running up to the meeting of the Green River and the Hoosic, and it’s becoming one of my favorite places. The walk rush through phlox and fern up to Route 2, and across the bridge (and back aways) another trail-head for Upper Linear Park will take you back along the other bank.

Coming out of the trees, I turned a corner into a raft of buttercups. An acre of brilliant yellow. I stood there, knee-deep, and found myself laughing for the sheer unexpected beauty of it.

Thank you! It was one of those moments when the world stops you in your tracks, and it’s hard to believe something like this is quietly growing just around the corner.
