Inspired by The 365 Days of Eloise: My Book of Holidays, create a Holiday Passport with self-portrait sketch and stamps for participation in family activities.

Imagine your favorite days of the year and sketch them out as keepsakes. Make a list of “My favorite Holiday Foods” to share with everyone. Get all dressed up in your favorite, favorite, favorite clothes – snap a picture and call it “I am ME! ME! ME!”

Did I hear “Room Service”!? Gather with friends and family over refreshments and enjoy your holiday adventures together.

The Norman Rockwell Museum will celebrate the new exhibition Eloise & More: The Art of Hilary Knight with activities for children of all ages including story-time and artmaking, curator talks and more.

Hilary Knight has been creating art for 70 years. He is often known for his iconic illustrations of Eloise in the books by Kay Thompson — the indomitable six-year-old girl who lives in the Plaza Hotel with her dog, her turtle and an unstoppable sense of mischief.

In a broad retrospective, Eloise & More will pay homage with original art, manuscripts, sketches, photographs, music videos and more, including original illustrations from many other books and from Drawn from Life, an illustrated memoir.

The show will include work from his artistic parents, artist-writers Clayton Knight and Katharine Sturges, and look back to Knight’s early years in the field, as he began to publishdrawings in 1952 in magazines such as Gourmet and Mademoiselle.

Two years later he met actress and singer Kay Thompson, and over the next few years they collaborated on four books about Eloise.

Since then, Knight has continued his career illustrating in a variety of fields. This retrospective looks back to Knight’s early advertising assignments, magazine illustrations, art for Broadway musicals, painted fashion designs, sketches and final work for books he has illustrated and written.

Following Thompson’s death in 1998, Knight has drawn and painted five more books involving Eloise, selections from which will be on view.

Much of the work in this show has rarely been seen, including trial Eloise drawings from Hilary Knight in 1954, previously unpublished drawings from Eloise in Paris and a once-stolen Eloise portrait from the Plaza Hotel.

Hilary Knight was born in Hempstead, Long Island and grew up in the town of Roslyn. When he was six the family moved to Manhattan where he has lived ever since. In the past twenty years he has maintained an apartment in the center of New York City which doubles as his studio and houses his collection of books, programs, and recordings of theatre and film music. His first published work appeared in Mademoiselle Magazine in 1952, followed by drawings in House and Garden, Good Housekeeping, and Gourmet magazines.

Mr. Knight has illustrated over fifty books, nine of which he also wrote. Besides books, his work has included note and greeting cards, children’s fashion advertisings, illustrations for Cricket magazine, record album covers and posters for the Broadway musicals Half A Sixpence, Hallelujah Baby!, No, No Nanette, Irene and more.
