Book Club: BLK FMNNST Loaner Library
December 5 @ 5:00 pm
Los Angeles. 2024. The political and economic structures in the U.S. are breaking down. In Parable of the Sower, Octavia Butler’s speculative novel, science fiction is becoming real. Cities are collapsing. A gated community has become a pallisade, protecting a small group of neighbors who survuve by raising their own food, holding their own schools and patrolling their own walls. But their fragile cooperation is under threat, and a young black woman will draw on all her resources to form some kind of order and stability out of chaos.
At Mass MoCA this fall, a book club will consider fiction and nonfiction that artist Cauleen Smith honors in her series paintings of the covers of books. Gwendolyn VanSant Multicultural Bridge will lead the discussions.
The reading group continues on November 7 — Christina Sharpe’s In the Wake: On Blackness and Being
And on December 5 readers with talk about Kathleen Collins’ Whatever Happened to Interracial Love?
