Caroline Fowler, Starr Director of the Research and Academic Program, narrates a history of 17th-century Dutch art through the collections of the Clark, demonstrating the ongoing relevance of Dutch masters such as Rembrandt van Rijn, Johannes Vermeer, and Jacob van Ruisdael for our contemporary world.

Through these three lectures, Fowler unfolds a history of Dutch painting and its impact and ongoing importance for our contemporary art market, concepts of the artist, abstraction, and the role of painting in creating ideas about citizenship, democracy, and belonging.

The November session, Rembrandt and the Americas, takes place in the Scholars’ Seminar Room, located in the Manton Research Center.
