On the homelands of the Stockbridge-Munsee community of the Mohican nation, Images Cinema offers a free festival of Indigenous film in collaboration with SMC Cultural Affairs and the Students of HIST 276, with the support of Williams College.

Thunderheart is shown in celebration of Indigenous actress and Stockbridge-Munsee tribal member, Sheila Tousey. Thunderheart was her feature film debut.

When a series of murders stuns a small Native American reservation, the FBI sends in agent Ray Levoi to investigate. While Ray is relatively inexperienced, he is one quarter Sioux, and the FBI hopes that will make it easier for them to gather information from the locals. While the reservation police officer views the agent as an outsider, the tribal elder believes him to be the reincarnated spirit of Thunderheart, a Native American hero.

Synopsis: Since her sister’s disappearance, Jax has cared for her niece Roki by scraping by on the Seneca-Cayuga Reservation in Oklahoma. Every spare minute goes into finding her missing sister while also helping Roki prepare for an upcoming powwow. At the risk of losing custody to Jax’s grandfather, Frank, the pair hit the road and scour the backcountry to track down Roki’s mother in time for the powwow. What begins as a search gradually turns into a far deeper investigation into the complexities and contradictions of Indigenous women moving through a colonized world and at the mercy of a failed justice system.
