Glenn Kaino: In Light of a Shadow
April 8 @ 10:00 am - May 26 @ 5:00 pm
Internationally acclaimed artist Glenn Kaino opens a new exhibit at Mass MoCA and fills the vast Gallery 5 with shadow and illusion, sound and light in a tribute to protest and activism through time. Historic photographs from struggles for Civil Rights will take form, larger than life.
Stones from protest sites around the world form a galaxy of ships and sattelites around a recreation of the ShadowV, a fishing boat the IRA bombed to assassinate Lord Mountbatten.
And U2’s rock ballad Bloody Sunday invokes days of reckoning from Northern Ireland to selma, Alabama. Los Angeles musician Deon Jones has worked with Kaino to release a cover and a new music video, a firm and unshakeable protest song. Jones recorded it not long after he himself suffered police brutality during a peaceful protest last summer.
