Housatonic Evening Paddle
July 15 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Mass Audobon naturalists Zach Adams and Dale Abrams will lead a Moonlight Canoe Trip on the Housatonic River.
Evening is the perfect time to look for wildlife, they say. The group will gently explore the rich wetlands of the Housatonic Valley Wildlife Management Area in the hours before dusk, find a cove to come together in, and enjoy light refreshments while listening and watching for wildlife. Kingfishers, herons, muskrats, beavers, and other wildlife are all possible sightings.
The group will set out from the Housatonic River-Decker Boat Launch in Lenox. Children must be at least 10, come with an adult and know how to swim. Mass Audubon recommends families bring their own reusable water bottles and insect repellent. They’ll provide snacks and beverages.
They ask everyone to meet 15 minutes before start time. Groups are limited to 11 people, and Mass Audobon can’t take walk-ins right now, for safety. Masks/face coverings are optional now for outdoor programs.
