Beginning in the work yard, guests will visit rarely-seen areas of Naumkeag as they ascend from the basement kitchens to the third-floor maid’s quarters, stopping along the way to peek into linen closets and other areas used by the servants. ‘
The Backstairs Tour is limited to 10 people, because it involves narrow stairways and confined spaces. Naumkeag says the tour may be challenging for people with limited mobility or for children under 12.
You will need to sign up ahead, and the tour begins promptly at 9:30 a.m.; Naumkeage encourages you to arrive 15 minutes early, because late arrivals will not be able to join the group. Tickets for the tour include general admission to the house and grounds as well. The tour runs at 9:30 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays, July 8 through August 27.
