Notchview in Windsor grooms miles of trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Now that snow is falling, the cross-country ski and snowshoe trails are open at Notchview, up on the ridge in Windsor.

With more than 3,000 acres this Trustees land in the Hoosac Range keeps 25 miles of groomed ski trails through fields and red spruce and northern hardwood forest.

Almost half of the trails are groomed and track-set for classical cross-country skiing, the land trust says, and 5 miles are groomed for skate skiing. You can also snowshoe alongside the ski trails or go off track and explore the backcountry.

Much of Notchview sits above 2,000 feet, and Judge’s Hill, the highest point, is 2,297 feet, so the trails may have more snow than you’ll see in the valleys. In ski season, the Budd Visitor Center provides food and beverages, equipment rentals and a warm respite from the winter chill.

The trails and visitors center are open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every day from December to March, as long as the snow allows, and you can check daily trail and weather updates to see which trails are open and how conditions look.
