Sky Dance of the American Woodcock

When the sun sets in early spring, woodcock love is in the air. Wet meadows and fields are transformed into a “runway” for their beautiful aerial courtship display. Visit our meadows at Post Farm Marsh in Lenox to listen and watch for the woodcock’s performance on their breeding When the sun sets in early spring, woodcock love is in the air. Mass Audubon naturalist Zach Adams and teacher and education manager Dale Abrams will lead a search in the early spring night at Post Farm Marsh to in Lenox listen and watch for the woodcock’s performance on their breeding grounds.

You will need to register ahead — groups are limited to 11 people who sign up before the event, according to state Covid safety guidelines, and so Mass Audubon can’t allow walk-ins. They will ask all walkers to follow guidelines for safety and maintain six feet of distance and wear a face covering unless unable to do so due to medical conditions. You’ll also need to dress for the weather and prepare for uneven terrain.
