July 7: Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, a World War II drama with a love theme and score by André Previn that’s among the most memorable in the history of cinema. It will be screened during Tanglewood’s summerlong commemoration of Sir André, which includes the world premier of Previn and Tom Stoppard’s Penelope on July 24th at Seiji Ozawa Hall.
July 14: Defiant Requiem
Defiant Requiem, an acclaimed documentary about the performance of Verdi’s Requiem by Jewish prisoners at a Nazi concentration camp.
July 21: Gregory Crewdson: Brief Encounters
Gregory Crewdson: Brief Encounters is a close-up portrait of the acclaimed photographer as he creates his stunning images, filmed with unprecedented access over a decade.
July 28: A Tale of Tanglewood: Peter Grimes Reborn
A Tale of Tanglewood: Peter Grimes Reborn weaves a tapestry that travels back and forth over the 50 years that separate the American premiere of Benjamin Britten’s opera, conducted by Leonard Bernstein in the Theatre, and a remount of the work at Tanglewood this time with Maestro Seiji Ozawa on the podium.
Aug 11: Babette’s Feast
Babette’s Feast, with a score by acclaimed contemporary composer and writer Per Nørgård, explores the story of a 19th century Parisian political refugee who seeks shelter in a rough, Danish coastal town. Winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1987.
Aug 18: Impromptu
Impromptu, a film set in 1830s France in which pianist/composer Frédéric Chopin is pursued romantically by the determined, independent woman and notorious writer who uses the name George Sand.
Aug 25: Score: A Film Music Documentary
Score: A Film Music Documentary tracks the progress of modern-day film score development and turns the spotlight on the creative struggles involved in composing major motion picture scores. It features interviews with more than 50 composers, directors, orchestrators, and other film industry professionals.
