Along Route 7 at the entrance to Bennington, the red barn wth the moose at the door has been a landmark for decades — the kind of Country Bakeshop where you can find cider doughnuts — and cider doughnut ice cream — or cut a wedge from a wheel of sharp Vermong cheddar cheese.

It’s the kind of place where you can not only find locally grown apples but pick up a Shaker apple peeler for those fall weekends when you and 15 friends want to spend a day making apple sauce.

The business has gone through a transition in recent years, as Sarah Albright, a local who has known the barn since childhood car trips, has taken over to keep it going. She is also a private chef service with a local business, Harvest to Hearth, bringing homemade food to the community.
