Nine local potters in the hills on the eastern rim of the Berkshires have gathered together into a team earning national recognition — Robbie Heidinger, Christy Knox, Maya Machin, Michael McCarthy, Hiroshi Nakayama, Mark Shapiro, Eric Smith, Constance Talbot, and Sam Taylor.

On the last weekend in July, they open their studios and kilns to the public for the annual Hilltown 6 Pottery Tour. In the last 12 years, they have earned attention as a craft event in the Northeast, drawing visitors from across the region and beyond. This year, visitors can climb inside a massive wood kiln and hear how it is fired or watch a master potter turn a hunk of clay into a slender pot.
