Vermont Public Theater and Vermont Arts Exchange will bring the arts together with holiday reading of A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote to raise funds for Vermont flood relief.
The reading, starring renowned actor Dan Butler of “Frasier” fame and directed by Dina Janis, will take place at Little City Cider Co., 139 Shields Drive in Bennington. The performance is free, and the audience is encouraged to donate to Vermont Community Foundation’s Vermong Flood Response and Recovery Fund at the door or before the event, by visiting vermontcf.org.
“VAE is honored to take part in raising funds to help our fellow Vermonters, many who are still recovering from the past flood,” says Matthew Perry, Executive Director of Vermont Arts Exchange. “Through creative partnership projects like this, we are not only building on our culture but addressing the needs of our community.”
Dan Butler’s many acting credits include major roles on and off Broadway, television, and film. Some favorites include “Silence of the Lambs” and “Enemy of the State” on film; the role of “Bulldog” on the hit series “Frasier” “The Weir” “Travesties” and “The Hothouse” on stage and having the great good fortune to work and collaborate with Horton Foote, Terrence McNally, Harold Pinter, Jonathon Demme, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Adrian Hall, and Bill Ball.
Dina Janis is the Artistic Director of Vermont Public Theater, Bennington College faculty member, and former Artistic Director of Dorset Theatre Festival where she directed numerous productions over her 13-year tenure.
“VPT is so excited to be joined by such stalwart Vermont institutions in helping raise funds for our hard-hit friends and neighbors in the region,” she says. “What a great way to ring in the holiday season.”
Vermont Arts Exchange, led by Matthew Perry since 1993, offers inspired year-round arts education programs, exhibitions, and performances such as the popular Basement Music Series.
Established in fall of 2022, Vermont Public Theater intends to bring top notch theater to audiences in ways that embrace, engage, and serve the community. Little City Cider, located in Bennington, is Vermont’s only commercial hard cidery and is known for their music and performance events.
