LumiNAMA Holiday Lights Festival returns to brighten and celebrate downtown North Adams during the holiday season, as storefronts are illuminated with 20 different window displays and decorated by the creative talents of local artists and community groups.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to walk down Main, Eagle, Holden, Marshall, and Ashland Streets to admire various light displays and installations as well as support local businesses and galleries during the start of the winter season.
“Lightening up and energizing downtown North Adams is what I’m about, and it is an honor to work with LumiNAMA and provide my storefronts for this initiative,” said Andrew Fitch, owner of 3-5 Eagle Street, First Friday co-organizer, and recently elected City Councilor.
Dozens of business owners will create holiday displays for their own store windows and have the opportunity to submit their display to win an award dictated by passersby. In 2022, local artists and business owners vied for three awards: Brightest Lights, Best Artistic Installation, and Best Window Display.
“We had so much fun last year creating three different window displays. My wife Tiffany and I decided to get more involved with LumiNAMA this year to help make downtown North Adams more festive during the holiday season,” said Dan Weissbrodt, LumiNAMA team member. Last year, the Weissbrodts won the “Best Holiday Window Display Award” out of over 30 submissions.
This year the category for Best Spirit has been added to the voting lineup for the theme of “A Few of My Favorite Things.” This year’s LumiNAMA Awards Gala will take place at the North Adams Elks Lodge on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 5 p.m.
Those creating a holiday window display for a downtown storefront are invited to submit a window display for an award by December 1 for the chance of cash prizes. Residents can help choose the best window displays by voting.
This year, LumiNAMA has also invested in the creation of five light installations at City Hall, the North Adams Public Library, the First Congregational Church, Eagle Street Park, and the park at Ashland and Main. Mass MoCA also has plans for a light installation at Big Bling Park. Some of the light displays may look familiar to many residents thanks to the generosity of the Arnold family who donated them, as well as thousands of lights.

The mission of LumiNAMA is to brighten and celebrate downtown North Adams throughout the holiday season by encouraging business owners to hang lights, by connecting artists with local property owners to decorate unoccupied storefronts and by inviting residents to walk around their downtown to take in all the beautiful lights with their family and friends.
LumiNAMA was incubated by the North Adams Chamber in 2022 and continues to support it. The festival is now operated by a local group of residents who are madly in love with North Adams and want it to shine brighter than ever during the holiday season.
